 Hyssop :
Aromatherapy Materia Medica

Once considered sacred, this herb was often used in purification practices. Hyssop comes from the Mediterranean. Most of the oil produced goes into expensive perfumes.

Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae)
Extraction: Distilled from flowering tops. The odor is spicy, strong, herbaceous.
Emotional Attribute: A sedative, hyssop reduces grief and hysteria while increasing mental clarity.
Considerations: A nervous-system stimulant, use hyssop with caution: large doses may raise blood pressure and trigger asthma or epilepsy.

Associated Oil:
Hyssop (H. officinalis var. decumbens) --This variety of hyssop contains none of the hazardous ketones found in regular hyssop. High in linalol, it is a sinus and lung decongestant, safe for allergies, sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma and nervousness.
