Vitamin
Angel Alliance has begun organizing children’s
and adult multiple vitamin shipments to assist in the
Pakistan Earthquake Relief effort. To help lower the
likelihood of opportunistic infections and diseases
compounding the present tragedy, Vitamin Angels is
working with an alliance of companies in the natural
products and pharmaceutical industries to help bring
in emergency nutritional supplies to the refugees in
the mountainous region between Pakistan and India.
Vitamin Angel Alliance in partnership with other relief
organizations is now beginning to stage and consolidate
vitamin donations that will be shipped along with medical
supplies to the earthquake region as early as next
week.
“Monday morning the phone was ringing and e-mails
were coming in saying – What can we do to help
in Pakistan?” said Howard B. Schiffer, Vitamin
Angel Alliance, President. "It's heartbreaking
seeing the massive destruction," said Mitch Skop,
Vice President of Sales at Pharmachem Laboratories, "We
know what a difference basic nutrition can make and
we're committed to helping in the relief effort." Schiffer
noted, “We’ve heard from the World Health
Organization (WHO) and they’re afraid of an epidemic
and waterborne diseases breaking out as water supplies
and sanitation have been heavily damaged. We’re
committed to getting in there immediately with basic
nutritional supplies to keep these people healthy.”
Vitamin Angel Alliance is a non-profit, non-sectarian
organization dedicated to providing basic nutrition
and fighting vitamin A deficiency childhood blindness
and other vitamin deficiency diseases around the world
since 1994. Last year Vitamin Angels donated 23.4 million
supplements to people in need in 40 countries around
the world.
“These villagers are just trying to keep their
children alive in the wake of this terrible devastation,
said Schiffer, “We’re dedicated to helping
them in any way we can.”
