What Doctors Don't Tell You: HEAD LICE: - Reach for the Bug Buster
Share
What Doctors Don't Tell You
© (Issue 186)
A new school
year is about to begin and with it comes the threat of head lice. According to some newspapers, parents and children are in for a torrid time as infestation levels among children are the highest since World War II. There are plenty of over-the-counter treatments you could try, but a new study has discovered that the Bug Buster - a kit comprising four fine-toothed combs and conditioner - is one of the best. The trial involved 133 children aged from 2 to 15 who had head lice. Fifty-six tried the Bug Buster and the rest had one treatment of pediculides, an over-the-counter insecticide. The Bug Buster was the clear winner, being effective in 57 per cent of cases, while the pediculides killed off the lice in just 13 per cent of the children. This is a great result for the Bug Buster, especially as earlier research had shown it was far less effective than an insecticide. Since then the Community Hygiene Concern, which developed the system, has made improvements, and made it the louse killer it has become today.
